In a significant political development in Nagaland, Namdatbou, the lone Congress councillor of Jalukie Town Council, formally joined the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on January 27. The joining took place at Jalukie Town in Peren district.
According to a press release, Namdatbou joined the NPF along with all Congress party representatives from Ward No. 3 of Jalukie Town Council. The programme was held in the presence of Jalukie Town Council chairman Hadi, NPF 7 Peren Assembly Constituency president Kurangbe, and INC Jalukie Town Ward No. 3 unit president Willingkhaibo. Several senior leaders and party workers of the NPF were also present during the event.
The press release stated that Namdatbou and the Congress representatives from Ward No. 3 took a unanimous decision to join the NPF in support of the party’s leadership. The move, the release said, was made with the objective of strengthening the NPF under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang and Jalukie Town Council chairman Hadi.
Speaking on the occasion, Namdatbou said that his decision to leave the Congress and join the NPF was taken in the interest of development and good governance. He said he was impressed by the leadership and vision of T. R. Zeliang and believed that the NPF provides a stronger platform to work for the welfare of the people.
The councillor also expressed confidence in the leadership of Nagaland Chief Minister and NPF president Neiphiu Rio. He pledged to work sincerely for the growth and progress of Jalukie Town and to contribute positively to the party’s activities at the grassroots level.
