Assam is set to witness a historic milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands today at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. The ELF – the first of its kind in Northeast India – has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force to support both military and civil aircraft operations during emergencies.
The Prime Minister will witness a spectacular aerial display featuring fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, marking the operational readiness of this strategic infrastructure. Designed as a dual-use facility, the ELF can handle fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes maximum take-off weight. Beyond defence operations, it will play a crucial role in rapid rescue and relief deployment during natural disasters and other strategic situations in the Northeast.
