Silchar set to welcome Amit Shah for a three-day Assam Visit

Only a few weeks remain until the Assembly elections, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Silchar tonight for a three-day trip to Assam. According to officials, he will spend the night in Silchar, in the Cachar district, before going to the BSF’s Natunpur border outpost on the India-Bangladesh border on February 20 to assess the security situation. The forward post visit coincides with increased attention being paid to border security in the run-up to the elections. The Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP), a Central initiative to improve lives and fortify infrastructure in border areas, will be introduced by Shah in Natunpur.

The program aims to reduce migration from isolated villages by improving connectivity and generating job possibilities. Shah will officially launch the BJP’s election campaign in the Barak Valley later today when he speaks at a rally there. The three districts that make up the Barak Valley are thought to be essential to the BJP’s chances in southern Assam. Following the rally, he is expected to go to Agartala, Tripura, and then return to Assam that same evening. Shah will be present at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati on Saturday for the CRPF’s annual day parade.

The parade will be hosted in the Northeast for the first time, according to officials, which is a move that is thought to have symbolic meaning for the area. Additionally, he will lay the cornerstone for the 10th Assam Police Battalion’s new campus at Kasutoli in Sonapur, which is close to Guwahati. Shah will be returning to Assam for the third time since December 29. The 126-member Assembly is up for election in March or April, and the BJP is running for a third straight term.
