UPPL President Pramod Boro Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Assam

United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam, marking an important political development for the Bodoland Territorial Region and the Bodo community. The confirmation of his election came after the scrutiny of nomination papers for the three Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

According to officials involved in the election process, Boro’s nomination received the backing of several legislators from different parties. Members of the United People’s Party Liberal, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) extended their support by signing as proposers for his candidature. With more than the required number of MLAs supporting his nomination, Boro secured the Rajya Sabha seat without facing any contest. Political leaders and supporters have described the development as a significant moment for the Bodo community. Many believe that Boro’s presence in the Upper House of Parliament will provide an opportunity to raise issues concerning the Bodoland Territorial Region at the national level.

One of the key objectives linked with his entry into the Rajya Sabha is the push for the proposed 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill. The amendment seeks to increase the number of constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) from the present 40 seats to 60. Supporters say that expanding the council’s representation would allow better participation of different communities and strengthen the administrative structure of the BTC.Soon after news of his election spread, a large number of supporters gathered in Kokrajhar to welcome the UPPL leader. The celebrations turned into a festive scene as people assembled in different parts of the town to greet Boro on his return.
