BJP Announces Candidates for Bypolls in Northeast, Other States

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections in several states, including Nagaland and Tripura, as part of its preparations ahead of the next round of elections. The party has fielded Daochier I. Imchen from the 28-Koridang (ST) seat in Nagaland, while Jahar Chakraborti will contest from the 56-Dharmanagar constituency in Tripura. Both seats fell vacant following the deaths of sitting legislators — former minister Imkong L. Imchen in Nagaland and senior leader and former minister Biswa Bandhu Sen in Tripura.In addition to the Northeast, the BJP has also announced candidates for bypolls in Goa and Karnataka.

Ritesh Ravi Naik has been named for the 21-Ponda seat in Goa. In Karnataka, the party has fielded Veerabhadrayya Charantimath from Bagalkot and Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa from Davanagere South. The by-elections are being conducted to fill vacancies in eight assembly constituencies across six states, most of which arose due to the demise of sitting members. According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, polling for seats in Nagaland, Tripura, Goa and Karnataka will be held in the first phase on April 9. The second phase, covering constituencies in Gujarat and Maharashtra, is scheduled for April 23.

The counting of votes for all seats will take place on May 4, and the entire election process is expected to conclude by May 6. The election notification for the first phase was issued on March 16. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, while scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 24. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their names until March 26.
