Aman Kumar Tops HSLC Exams; Girls Dominate Merit Lists

Girls once again outperformed boys in the 2026 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education.The board declared the results on Thursday, a day earlier than scheduled, citing a technical issue related to the timer system.

In the HSLC examination, conducted between February 13 and 26, a total of 22,765 students enrolled, out of which 16,406 passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 72.07 per cent. Girls recorded a pass percentage of 72.72 per cent, while boys secured 71.30 per cent.Aman Kumar of MGM Higher Secondary School topped the HSLC examination with 590 marks, scoring 98.33 per cent. He will receive the NBSE Topper Award and the Governor’s Gold Medal.

Girls also dominated the merit rankings, securing 57 out of the top 20 positions. Government schools recorded a pass percentage of 43.26 per cent, while private schools achieved 86.13 per cent.In the HSSLC examinations, held from February 12 to March 9, girls performed better across Arts, Commerce and Science streams. The Arts stream recorded the highest overall pass percentage at 85.78 per cent, followed by Science at 85.67 per cent and Commerce at 81.69 per cent.
