Special Meeting on Dimapur Civic Crisis Set for May 22

A no-confidence motion has been moved against Hukheto Yepthomi, chairperson of the Dimapur Municipal Council. According to officials, the motion has been supported by 12 elected members of the council, including the deputy chairperson, out of a total of 23 elected members in the civic body. The proposal was jointly submitted by two council members seeking the removal of the chairperson through a no-confidence motion under the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.

An official notification issued by Tinojongshi Chang stated that a written notice expressing the intention to move the motion was received on May 11. Following the submission of the notice, the Deputy Commissioner has convened a special meeting of the elected members of the council on May 22 at the DMC office in Dimapur. The meeting has been called to discuss and decide on the no-confidence motion against the chairperson.

Officials said only elected members of the council will be allowed to participate in the voting process during the special session. Ex-officio members and nominated members will not be allowed to vote, in accordance with the provisions laid down under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
