Nagaland Governor Orders Fast-Track UDID Card Issuance

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has directed concerned departments to ensure timely delivery of essential services to specially abled persons after taking note of delays in the issuance of Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards in Peren district. According to a statement issued by Raj Bhavan on Friday, the governor intervened after a media report highlighted the difficulties faced by beneficiaries due to procedural delays in obtaining the disability identification cards. Taking cognisance of the matter, Yadav instructed the Departments of Social Welfare and Health and Family Welfare to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and expedite the pending applications.

Following the governor’s intervention, the UDID cards of three applicants from Peren district — Kerehunglungle, Nchayi Kuame and Keligumbe Hairangbuing — were processed and issued on Friday, the statement said. The governor emphasised the importance of ensuring that specially abled persons receive government services and benefits without unnecessary delays. He also stressed the need for effective coordination among departments to address issues affecting vulnerable sections of society. Raj Bhavan said the authorities are now working with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to facilitate assistive devices and other support services for the beneficiaries based on their specific requirements.

The initiative is expected to help the beneficiaries access various welfare schemes and support mechanisms linked to the UDID programme. Yadav appreciated the prompt response of the Departments of Social Welfare and Health and Family Welfare and lauded their coordinated efforts in resolving the issue within the stipulated timeframe. The governor reiterated the importance of responsive governance and urged departments to remain proactive in addressing the concerns of citizens, particularly those belonging to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
