Congress MP from Dhubri, Rakibul Hussain has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to order an independent, time-bound inquiry into the conduct of former Nagaon DC-cum-DEO Devashish Sharma.
Sharma has reportedly resigned amid concerns over his possible entry into electoral politics and plans to contest the Nagaon by-polls on a BJP ticket.
The MP has, in a letter to the ECI, raised serious questions about the misuse of administrative influence, including irregularities involving 15th Finance Commission funds, and has called for scrutiny of election-related decisions taken during his tenure.
“Resignation cannot be a shield against accountability. The ECI must ensure that no officer’s conduct compromises the neutrality, credibility or fairness of the electoral process,” the Congress leader said.
The allegations must be investigated, relevant records preserved, and appropriate action must be taken, the MP stated in the letter.
