During a high-level meeting in Delhi on Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to seek a renewed push for Externally Aided Projects (EAPs) and enhanced capital expenditure across the Northeast. Underlining the crucial role of funding from international development agencies—such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)—the discussion focused on expediting large-scale initiatives in key sectors including roads, urban development, water supply, health, and education. Union Finance Minister Sitharaman responded positively, assuring full central support to accelerate project timelines and drive sustainable economic growth. Both Chief Ministers emphasized that faster execution of these vital infrastructure and social sector projects will significantly improve connectivity, attract private investment, and unlock new development opportunities for the entire region.
