Truecaller has launched Truecaller Scam Checker on its Android app in India and on its website globally, bringing scam detection and community intelligence into a single destination for users to assess suspicious links, phone numbers and messages.
The company said the new service is designed to extend its scam protection beyond caller identification and spam blocking. Users can check web links for signs of malicious or phishing activity, look up phone numbers based on Truecaller’s detection systems and community signals, and search Scamfeed reports for similar scams reported by other users.
The platform also allows users to describe a concern in their own words and receive relevant results, including checks of links or phone numbers mentioned in the query and related community reports. Truecaller said the service addresses three common elements of suspicious messages — a number, a link and the accompanying story — allowing users to assess all three in one place.
“People often sense that something is wrong, but they need a quick way to check before responding,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller.
Truecaller said Scam Checker is backed by scam intelligence from its community of 500 million users. The company plans to expand coverage of scam techniques, introduce screenshot uploads for richer analysis and add user authentication. Additional markets and iOS support are planned for a later date.
