Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday felicitated ace boxer Lovlina Borgohain at Lok Sewa Bhawan here for winning gold in the women’s 75kg boxing event at the Asian Games in Japan.
The Chief Minister presented her a cheque for Rs 50 lakh in recognition of her historic achievement.
“Lovlina’s golden triumph is a matter of immense pride for the nation and will inspire the next generation to dream big,” Sarma said.
The boxer from Golaghat district in Upper Assam had arrived at the LGBI Airport here from New Delhi on Tuesday evening where she was received by leaders of both ruling and Opposition parties.
Meanwhile, the Assam government held a felicitation ceremony on Wednesday in honour of her achievement at the recently-concluded Asian Games at Aichi-Nagoya in Japan.
State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimary felicitated her on behalf of the Assam government and people of the state for bringing immense pride to the state and the nation through her remarkable performance.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister said Lovlina’s achievement is a matter of great pride for Assam and reflects her extraordinary determination, discipline and dedication to the sport.
The Minister said that the Government of Assam remains committed to strengthening the State’s sporting ecosystem and providing athletes with better infrastructure, training and opportunities to compete at the highest level.
The felicitation ceremony was organised by the Department of Sports, Assam, in association with the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) and the Assam Olympic Association.
Legislators, officials, representatives and office-bearers of AABA and AOA among other dignitaries were present at the felicitation ceremony.
The Minister conveyed his best wishes to Lovlina for her future competitions and expressed confidence that she would continue to inspire the next generation of athletes from Assam and bring further glory to the country.
