ISIC Multispeciality Hospital, New Delhi, has urged people in Kohima to seek timely medical attention for spine-related problems, warning that neglecting early symptoms can lead to chronic pain, reduced mobility and disability.
Dr Neeraj Gupta, Senior Consultant, Spine Services at the hospital, said persistent back or neck pain, particularly when accompanied by pain radiating to the arms or legs, numbness or tingling, should not be ignored. He noted that many patients seek treatment only when their ability to walk or move becomes restricted.
The hospital said prolonged sitting, excessive screen time, poor posture, lack of exercise, obesity, stress, improper lifting and repetitive hand and wrist movements can increase the risk of spine problems. Common conditions include chronic lower back pain, cervical spondylosis, slipped discs and spinal stenosis. Regular physical activity, movement breaks, maintaining a healthy weight and proper lifting techniques can help reduce the risk.
In Kohima, growing awareness of spine health is important for the local market and working population, as prolonged desk work, screen use and physically demanding occupations may affect productivity and daily activities. Early consultation could help reduce the burden of prolonged illness and associated treatment expenses.
Dr Gupta, who regularly visits Kohima to attend to spine and orthopaedic patients, stressed that early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve quality of life. Established in 1997, ISIC Multispeciality Hospital provides specialised spine care and rehabilitation services in New Delhi.
