Truecaller launches 10 MB Lite app to expand spam protection for budget smartphones

Truecaller has launched Truecaller Lite in India, a 10 MB Android application designed to deliver caller identification and spam and fraud call blocking on smartphones with limited storage and memory. The app supports devices with up to 4GB of RAM and is being rolled out gradually through the Google Play Store.

Ahead of the festive season, the launch targets users vulnerable to fraudulent delivery calls, fake offers and KYC scams. Truecaller Lite uses the company’s existing database and detection systems, offering protection comparable to its main app. Truecaller identified more than 68 billion spam and fraudulent calls globally in 2025.

The application includes caller ID, spam blocking, call history, contacts, number search and after-call screens for incoming and outgoing calls. Messaging, voicemail, family protection and AI assistant features have been excluded to maintain its lightweight design. CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said the app was developed for users whose basic Android phones struggle to run larger applications, stressing that security should not depend on the device a person owns.

In Guwahati, the app could appeal to budget-smartphone users who rely on mobile phones for digital payments, online shopping and delivery services. Its low storage requirement may also benefit consumers whose devices have limited space for applications, particularly during the festive shopping season.

Truecaller Lite is free to download and available exclusively for Android phones, with wider device availability expected over the coming weeks.
