Godrej Jersey’s Milk Report reveals that more than half (54%) of Indian consumers rank milk quality as their top priority when making purchasing decisions. The report, titled ‘Bottoms Up…India Says Cheers to Milk!’, also highlights that consumers are willing to increase milk consumption if assured of quality and safety, especially ahead of National Milk Day on November 26.
The comprehensive survey, conducted across key cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, provides valuable insights into evolving consumer preferences. It underscores the growing importance of hygiene, with consumers in Pune and Chennai (31%) most concerned about milk’s cleanliness, followed by Bangalore (30%) and Hyderabad (28%).
Additionally, the report reveals that 70% of consumers are willing to pay a premium for high-quality, safe milk. Packaging is the least prioritized factor in milk purchasing, while unadulterated milk was highly valued in Mumbai and Pune (33%) and Bangalore (29%). Bhupendra Suri, CEO of Godrej Jersey, emphasized that the data serves as a reminder that principles of quality, transparency, and consumer trust, championed during the White Revolution, are still central to the industry’s future. Godrej Jersey continues to drive growth through sustainable practices and integrated animal husbandry, enhancing farmers’ incomes across India.
