CM Sarma addressed the media after the meeting, stressing the cabinet’s commitment to inclusive development and dignified governance. One of the most notable decisions was the acceptance of the “Shradhanjali” project, which sought to enable the respectful and well-organized repatriation of deceased Assamese from other states. Initially scheduled to begin on October 1, 2025, the program would primarily support low-income workers and those who are killed in accidents or crimes committed outside of the state.
The transgender population has been designated as a Socially and Educationally Backward Class. The Cabinet has also declared two wetlands in Goalpara district as Proposed Reserve Forests, focusing on environmental conservation. Additionally, the monthly honorarium for Cook-cum-Helpers has been raised from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. The Assam government has implemented employment reforms, with experienced Anganwadi Workers being given preference for 50% supervisor positions in the Women and Child Development Department.
The government expanded its “Apon Ghar” and “Apon Bahan” programs to improve housing and transportation assistance. Following the adoption of the Assam State Mineral Exploration Trust Rules, 2025, Hinduja Renewables was granted land for a pumped storage project with a capacity of 900 MW. The state also approved the transfer of 40 bighas of government land for a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
