The Taxation Department in Assam has found evidence of significant GST evasion by work contractors. During inspection, search, and seizure operations, officials found evidence of suppression of sales and the use of fake or ineligible ITC. The total turnover involved in these cases is estimated to be around Rs.920 crore, with tax involvement of around Rs 102 crore. The State GST Department is taking serious note of the issue and is examining all cases for further proceedings. The search and seizure of unscrupulous taxpayers will create deterrence and send a message to avoid malpractices.
