A Major Leap in Cancer Care: Advanced Radiation Therapy Systems in Northeast India

In a significant milestone for cancer care in the region, Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute marked a momentous advancement in its radiation oncology capabilities. The unveiling of several state-of-the-art radiation therapy and diagnostic systems including a CT Simulator, TLD Reader, upgradation of the Synergy Linear Accelerator, and a Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) System have been supported by SBI Funds Management Limited (SBIFML), dedicated to the service of the nation, as part of its commitment towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and advancing cancer care in the Northeast region. The official ceremony was held in the august presence of Mr. Nand Kishore, Managing Director & CEO, SBI Funds Management Limited, along with other distinguished dignitaries, senior officials, clinicians, and faculty members of the institute.


Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nand Kishore, Managing Director & CEO, SBI Funds Management Limited said “At SBI Funds Management Limited, our CSR efforts are guided by the belief that strengthening healthcare infrastructure is essential to building resilient communities. We are honoured to support Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute in strengthening healthcare infrastructure for patients in the Northeast. These technology enhancements will contribute to improved accuracy, safety, and access to treatment, reaffirming our commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable impact in regions where quality healthcare is most needed. The newly added TLD Reader, the first of its kind in the Northeast for clinical hospital use, will play a crucial role in Bone Marrow Transplant procedures by enabling accurate measurement and monitoring of radiation doses during Total Body Irradiation. The CT Simulator will serve as an additional unit to support advanced radiotherapy planning using modern treatment techniques.
Further, the upgradation of the Elekta Synergy Linear Accelerator has extended its life by another 5 years, while the installation of the SGRT system will enable highly precise patient positioning and real-time monitoring during treatment, thereby reducing errors and enhancing treatment accuracy.

These advanced technologies are expected to significantly enhance precision, safety, and efficiency in cancer treatment, thereby contributing to improved patient outcomes.
