In honor of the 32 Assam Rifles’ exceptional contributions to peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and civic engagement in the Dima Hasao district, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presented the battalion with the coveted Unit Citation award on May 9 at Raj Bhawan, Guwahati. 32 Assam Rifles were instrumental in Operation Remal Rahat, which was conducted in a high-intensity counter-insurgency setting to rescue and assist the residents impacted by the destructive Cyclone Remal.
The team also served as first responders after the derailment of the Lokmanya Tilak Express at Dibalong and the rescue operation at the Umrangso coal mine, helping to evacuate civilians and giving vital medical assistance. The battalion has been actively involved in community development projects outside of security operations. These include organizing youth engagement programs, providing scholarships for higher education to Dima Hasao students, and organizing medical camps, blood drives, and emergency relief distributions.
