Advance salary facility announced for Assam state government employees: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a substantial relief move for state government employees, announcing that they will now be able to obtain their income in advance on a need-based basis. The statement was made at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Dispur, during the launch of the Swagat Satirtha Portal 2.0. Under the new system, the Assam government would allow its employees to draw advance compensation, which can be reimbursed either in a single payment or through payments within a year. Workers who choose this option must give the bank a minimum interest payment. The Chief Minister clarified that while installment-based payments would result in a somewhat higher interest rate, repayment made right after the regular wage is credited would result in reduced interest.

The program’s goals are to lessen reliance on outside borrowing and provide prompt financial assistance to staff members in times of need. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma also referred to his earlier commitment of activating the Swagat Satirtha transfer site twice in a financial year and repeated the government’s plan to conduct another round of employee transfers by March 31. Approximately 9,000 employees who have already profited from the site will not be allowed to reapply, he explained, but others who missed the chance will be able to apply for transfers to their desired places.

The Chief Minister cited the timeline and stated that the previous version of the portal opened on January 1, 2025, and ended on June 7, 2025. The government hopes to finish the transfer procedure by March 7 this time. He stated that as the operation is administrative rather than political in character, the Election Commission would be notified. To guarantee a seamless and prompt implementation, government personnel have been asked to finish their applications within 15 days. The Chief Minister remarked that both efforts, advance salary provision and expedited transfer processes demonstrate the state government’s sustained commitment on employee welfare and administrative efficiency.
