Akhil Gogoi criticizes the Assam government for hiring retired professors in colleges

Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal Chief Akhil Gogoi has vehemently condemned the Assam government’s choice to appoint retired professors in state colleges, labeling it a serious injustice to the millions of educated yet unemployed youth in the region.

“There are millions of unemployed individuals in Assam, with nearly 27 lakh being educated,” Gogoi stated emphatically.

“Instead of generating opportunities for these young talents, the BJP-led government opts to recycle retired individuals—those who have already spent their most productive years in academia.”

Gogoi asserted that retirees no longer possess the innovative capacity or vibrant energy necessary for modern teaching positions. “At a moment when Assam’s youth are earnestly searching for jobs, this decision represents a blatant betrayal,” he commented.

He also called on unemployed youths throughout the state to stand against what he described as a “conspiracy” against their future. He has vehemently denounced and opposed this decision, urging all educated unemployed youth to come together and resist this policy.

Further intensifying the mounting criticism, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has also voiced its opposition to the initiative. AASU President Utpal Sarma criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for publicly supporting the contentious recruitment of retired educators.

“The Chief Minister claims he backs it 101 percent. We assert it is a 101 percent affront to the highly educated unemployed youth,” Sarma remarked incisively.
