A new study published in Current Developments in Nutrition suggests so, revealing that consuming two ounces of almonds daily may reduce muscle damage, ease soreness, and improve recovery performance. Sponsored by the Almond Board of California, this research highlights almonds as a nutrient powerhouse for active lifestyles.

The study, conducted on 26 middle-aged individuals, compared the effects of almonds to pretzels during an eight-week trial. After an intense treadmill session designed to induce muscle damage, those in the almond group exhibited lower levels of creatine kinase—a key marker of muscle damage—and reported reduced soreness and improved muscle performance up to 72 hours later.
