Arunachal Pradesh Records Highest GST Jump in the Country

In a historic fiscal achievement, Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as the national leader in goods and services tax revenue growth. For the cumulative period of April 2025 to March 2026, the state recorded a staggering 27.5 percent jump in GST collections. This growth rate is not just a regional success; it is an extraordinary outlier that stands at over four times the national average of 6.4 percent, a feat unmatched by any other state or union territory in India. According to official data released by the Finance Ministry on April 1, 2026, the economic landscape of Arunachal Pradesh has seen a massive transformation. Central tax formations in the state collected 526 crore rupees during the 2025-26 fiscal year, compared to 407 crore rupees in the previous year. When combining both central and state formations, the grand total for GST collections reached 1,527 crore rupees, representing a substantial increase of 326 crore rupees over the 1,201 crore rupees recorded in the 2024-25 period. The growth was balanced across both central and state levels. Central formations contributed 206 crore rupees in CGST and 246 crore rupees in SGST, reflecting a growth of 29.4 percent—the highest in the central column nationwide. Simultaneously, state-level formations grew by 26.5 percent, placing Arunachal at the very top of state-level fiscal performance. While the rest of the country posted modest single-digit gains, Arunachal’s surge indicates a deepening of economic integration and the successful fruition of long-term infrastructure investments. Government officials have described this surge as a testament to the transformative potential of India’s Northeastern frontier. As infrastructure projects begin to bear fruit, the state is seeing increased commercial activity and higher tax compliance. This record-breaking performance highlights Arunachal Pradesh as a league of its own, proving that the region is no longer just a frontier but a primary engine of India’s domestic economic growth. With these record-breaking numbers, Arunachal Pradesh has set a new benchmark for fiscal health and economic momentum. This is a story of a state that is truly on the rise.
