Assam CM establishes the groundwork for initiatives at Dibrugarh University and AMCH

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the cornerstones for a number of large-scale infrastructure projects at Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, on Thursday, marking a major step towards bolstering medical education and healthcare facilities in Upper Assam. The ceremony signaled the start of work on the AMCH campus in 504-Bigha on the teacher quarters and student hostels. The Public Works (Health & Education) Department is in charge of carrying out the Rs 357 crore project.

In addition to separate residences for the Principal, Vice-Principals, and Medical Superintendent, the project will feature housing facilities for faculty members, including three blocks for junior faculty with 60 apartments and two blocks for senior faculty with 40 apartments. A 500-seat girls’ dorm and a 225-seat boys’ hostel will be built for MBBS students in order to meet their residential demands. Additionally, there will be two dormitories for postgraduate students: one with 232 seats for female students and another with 200 seats for male students.

A 250-seat girls’ hostel for students studying general nursing and midwifery is set to revolutionize the residential and academic environment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Northeast India. With eight towers housing 192 apartments for Grade IV workers and six blocks housing 120 apartments for Grade III and nursing staff, the project will also improve staff housing. The infrastructure project will cost Rs 147 crore and is being implemented under two main schemes. The government is dedicated to creating an atmosphere that supports education, research, and overall growth.
