Over 300 weavers and other attendees celebrated the 11th National Handloom Day in the Biswanath College of Agriculture auditorium. The National Handloom Development Corporation Limited, Guwahati, and the Department of Handloom and Textiles, Biswanath, worked together to organize the day through the Weavers’ Service Center, Guwahati. Hiralal Kalita and Jugal Bharali, two well-known handloom entrepreneurs and exporters, were there as resource persons and showcased their exportable goods.
They also gave a briefing on their handloom weaving success stories. Nine individual weavers received a total of Rs 9,00,000 in MUDRA loans from Handloom Weavers, while one recipient received a Rs 2,00,000 death claim under PMJJBY on the occasion of the day. The event location featured a showcase of various natural value-added yarn qualities, local weavers’ products, SAMARTH training products, and exporter items of natural dyed Eri spun silk, Muga silk, Tassar silk, and other types of silk.
A fly shuttle frame loom was installed at a venue to provide hands-on experience in handloom weaving. Grant sanction certificates, yarn passbooks, Pehchan Cards, and felicitation were given to 10 weavers under HSS (NHDP). A skill upgradation training program for thirty weavers under SAMARTH was inaugurated. The event attracted thousands of weavers and local residents, with distinguished dignitaries present. A 45-day Skill Development Training on Handloom Weaving under the SAMARTH Scheme was inaugurated by the Weavers’ Service Centre, Guwahati, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in collaboration with NEPDF.
