Rising talent with a strong desire to emulate her great-grandfather, grandfather, and paternal uncle—all of whom distinguished themselves in the Indian Army— As the first female student from Assam to get admission to the esteemed Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun, Kripsita Pradhan of Udalguri made history. Born in Ward No. 1 of Udalguri town, Kripsita is the eldest daughter of Pranita Newar, an English teacher at Rowta College Senior Secondary School, and Bhim Pradhan, a Health Department official. She attends Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Udalguri. She gained admission to RIMC by performing exceptionally well on the East Zone entrance exam, which covers West Bengal and the North Eastern regions.
After India gained its independence in 1947, the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, which Prince Edward VIII had founded on March 13, 1922, as the Prince of Wales Royal Indian Military College, changed its name. Alongside prestigious institutions like the Indian Military Academy and National Defence Academy, RIMC, a Category A establishment under the Ministry of Defence’s Army Training Command (ARTRAC), serves as a feeder institution for the Indian Armed Forces, the Indian Naval Academy, and the National Defence Academy (NDA).
In order to develop discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of duty, RIMC, which was first established to prepare Indian cadets for officer positions in the British Indian Army, today provides a comprehensive education that combines academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Kripsita’s accomplishment was a dazzling turning point in RIMC’s historic journey toward inclusivity since it opened its doors to female students in 2022. In order to join the RIMC on July 26, Kripsita will depart for Dehradun on July 22.
