The Bokakhat sub-district committee of the Assam Agitation Veterans Forum met on Sunday and hailed the government’s move to evict the dwellings and residences of suspected illegal occupants who had encroached on forest land, therefore freeing up the forest area. The gathering also encouraged the government to respect indigenous people’s land rights. Arun Bora, a former active student leader of the Assam Agitation, presided over the conference, which requested that the government follow every condition of the Assam Accord and take stern measures to expel foreign immigrants in accordance with the accord’s stipulations. Furthermore, the meeting passed a resolution urging the government to provide appropriate compensation to the families of martyrs and victims of the agitation, as well as special care and attention to veterans who are now bedridden due to various illnesses caused by their involvement in the movement.
Furthermore, the gathering resolved that existing veterans of the Assam Agitation in the Bokakhat sub-district should contact the committee and join the group.The gathering was attended by Indreshwar Sharma, Bijoy Kumar Saikia, Chandrasekhar Gogoi, Bharat Ravidas, Nabin Dutta, Dipen Kumar Nath, advisor Jeetu Sharma Rajkhowa, and other dignitaries and members. Bipul Gogoi, Secretary of the Veterans Forum, explained the objectives.
