Centre, UP strengthen skilling ties; ₹60,000 cr ITI revamp to boost workforce

The Centre and Uttar Pradesh have intensified their collaboration on skill development, focusing on the ₹60,000 crore National ITI Upgradation Scheme to modernize 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India. The initiative, financed through ₹30,000 crore from the Centre, ₹20,000 crore from states, and ₹10,000 crore from industry, aims to create a highly skilled workforce aligned with evolving market needs.

In a high-level meeting at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (I/C), and Shri Kapil Dev Agrawal, Uttar Pradesh’s Skill Development Minister, discussed key programs such as PMKVY, PM Vishwakarma, and NAPS. Officials noted that Uttar Pradesh has trained over 24.73 lakh candidates under PMKVY, with 93,000 enrolling in emerging roles like AI engineers and EV service technicians under PMKVY 4.0.

The initiative is expected to impact key industrial hubs, including Guwahati, where demand for a tech-savvy workforce is rising. Upgraded ITIs can provide skilled professionals for Assam’s growing logistics, manufacturing, and solar energy sectors, bridging the supply-demand gap in the job market. Both ministers emphasized industry-driven curricula, AI-driven skilling, and stronger Centre-State collaboration to position Uttar Pradesh as a premier hub for skilled workforce development.
