Chaiduar College (Autonomous) wrapped off its Environmental Awareness and Anti-Plastic Campaign

Chaiduar College (Autonomous), Gohpur, successfully wrapped off its two-week-long campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues and plastics. The goal of the program, which was launched on June 5 by the Department of Zoology in partnership with WWF India, is to eradicate single-use plastics and encourage sustainable living. Dr. Kishor Singh Rajput launched the campaign and underlined the pressing need for coordinated action to combat plastic pollution.

In front of Lukumoni Borah, the Gohpur Co-District Commissioner, a riveting street performance illustrated the harm that plastic garbage causes to both the environment and people. The institution engaged students, staff, locals, and environmental specialists in a variety of interactive and instructional events that took place over two weeks. Insightful seminars on plastic pollution and biodiversity conservation were led by Aniruddha Dhamorikar, Jitul Kalita, and Iusuf Khan, resource persons for WWF India, encouraging critical thinking and awareness.

The college organized a campaign to promote sustainable practices, including a ‘Waste to Wealth’ exhibition, a hands-on workshop, and a tree plantation drive. The campaign also featured environmental film screenings, an expert session on plastic challenges, and an ‘Exchange and Donation Hub’. Visitors were also given a chance to explore the college’s sustainable initiatives, such as a bee hive colony and a silkworm rearing facility. The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Mohini Mohan Borah, Head of the Department of Zoology.
