Chief Minister of Assam receive a warm welcome in Bhutan

Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, received a warm welcome from H.E. Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, upon his arrival at Paro Airport. The visit, spanning three days, was at the invitation of Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to participate as a state guest in celebrating the country’s 117th National Day. In Thimphu, the Chief Minister was greeted with traditional Bhutanese dances and a special rendition of Assam’s iconic Bihu dance. During the trip, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, held in Thimphu, where he engaged in discussions with Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister expressed, “Given Assam’s close geographical linkage with Bhutan, we are presented with numerous opportunities, ranging from closer cooperation in the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City, energy generation, healthcare, tourism, and skill development.”

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also attended Bhutan’s National Day celebrations at Changlimithang Stadium, where he described the 117th National Day as a “royal celebration” in his X post. He expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck for the gracious invitation, calling the occasion a truly magnificent celebration.
