DC Mridul Yadav spearheads a collaborative effort to advance women’s empowerment in Cachar

The Cachar district government has launched a ten-day awareness campaign to strengthen women’s empowerment and make sure that welfare programs are implemented throughout the district, a powerful example of collaborative governance. Under the direction of District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, who is highly recognized for advancing inclusive and participatory development in Cachar, the effort was initiated. It was co-organized by the Department of Women and Child Development and the district administration. Under the auspices of Sankalp, Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), a review meeting was convened in the DC office to formally launch the campaign. The administration’s increasing emphasis on convergence and interdepartmental cooperation was reflected in the gathering, which included representatives from many departments, social welfare officers, grassroots coordinators, and institutional representatives. Smt. Deepa Das, ACS, Assistant Commissioner and In-charge District Social Welfare Officer, gave a welcome speech to kick off the program. She emphasized the administration’s goal of empowering women as active contributors to Cachar’s development as well as recipients of government programs. Smt. Bonani Bhattacharjee, District Mission Coordinator, Sankalp HEW, then gave a thorough presentation on the ten-day action plan, which includes training sessions, awareness campaigns, and direct access to institutional support.

Smt. Phyllis Hrangchal, ACS, ADC (WCD), who chaired the discussions, emphasized the value of group accountability. One department cannot bear the entire burden of empowering women. The attendees strongly agreed with her statement that coordination between livelihood, health, education, and protection services is necessary. The Mission Shakti scheme, a flagship program of the Indian government aimed at advancing women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment, was a major topic of discussion. In order to demonstrate the breadth of Cachar’s institutional framework, participants included CDPOs, block coordinators, representatives from the departments of Health, Education, and Child Protection, as well as officials from the One Stop Center, Shakti Sadan, and Poshan Abhiyan.

The program will use interactive workshops, outreach events, and awareness campaigns to reach every block in the district. Its main objectives are improving women’s safety mechanisms, educating girls, providing livelihood opportunities through self-help groups, and promoting maternal and child health. The effort aims to guarantee that women and children perceive government programs as a cohesive support system rather than as discrete interventions by integrating many ministries, including health, education, ASRLM, and DCPU. Meeting officials were upbeat, pointing out that Cachar is at a pivotal point in history where investments in women’s empowerment have the potential to produce revolutionary outcomes. They underlined that when women have access to protection, livelihood, healthcare, and education, the benefits spread beyond individuals to families, villages, and the entire district.

Under the steadfast leadership of DC Mridul Yadav, the government is working to show that women’s empowerment in Cachar is a real, quantifiable objective rather than merely an agenda item. They emphasized that the campaign is a pledge and a commitment that, as part of the district’s development process, women’s opinions would be heard, their rights will be protected, and their dreams will be fostered.
