In a strategic push towards green workforce development, the Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has partnered with Shell India to roll out an Electric Vehicle (EV) and Green Skills training program across select ITIs and NSTIs. Implemented by Edunet Foundation, the initiative targets five states—Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka—with a multi-tier curriculum designed to build industry-aligned capabilities.
The program includes a 240-hour advanced EV technician course, a 90-hour job-oriented module, and a 50-hour foundational course, along with co-branded certifications, placement support, and hands-on lab training. More than 250 trainers will be upskilled to ensure knowledge continuity. “This is a generational opportunity to align skill development with climate priorities,” said Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE.
In Guwahati, where EV adoption is steadily rising, the initiative is expected to unlock job opportunities in service, repair, and battery management for two- and three-wheelers. The region’s growing EV market, supported by state EV policies, is likely to benefit from the steady flow of trained professionals.
