Diphu set to receive Rajdhani Express stop, enhancing connectivity in Assam’s hill districts

In a significant advancement connectivity in the hill districts of Assam, the Dibrugarh Town–New Delhi Rajdhani Express will now make a stop at Diphu Railway Station in the Lumding Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway, effective July 17.

This new stop is the result of persistent efforts by Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, who formally requested this addition in response to the long-standing appeals from local residents for enhanced rail access. This initiative is regarded as a major development for Karbi Anglong and its neighboring areas, as it provides direct rail access to the national capital via one of India’s fastest and most esteemed trains.
To commemorate this event, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Lumding Division has extended an invitation to MP Amarsing Tisso to inaugurate the first Rajdhani Express service that includes Diphu. The ceremony is occur at Diphu Railway Station on July 17. The DOWN Rajdhani Express will make its first stop at Diphu at 23:21 hrs that same night, while the UP Rajdhani Express will arrive at the station at 02:24 hrs on July 18. Both trains are set to have a two-minute scheduled halt.

The Dibrugarh Town–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, which spans approximately 2,421 km in just over 37 hours, operates daily and is celebrated for its speed, comfort, and onboard facilities. With the addition of Diphu to its route, passengers from Karbi Anglong and surrounding regions will now have the convenience of boarding the Rajdhani Express directly, eliminating the need to travel to more distant stations.

MP Amarsing Tisso expressed his approval of this development, describing it as a “historic step for the people of Assam’s hills,” and reiterated his dedication to further enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in the area.
