District Road Safety Award Ceremony Organized in Kohima

The Kohima District Road Safety Committee (KDRSC) organized the Kohima District Road Safety Award–2026 ceremony at DPDB Hall, Kohima, on Monday in commemoration of National Road Safety Month.
The programme was moderated by Dr. Riku Khutso, EAC Kohima Sadar, while citations were read out by Roben Mesen, RTO and Ex-Officio Member Secretary of KDRSC. Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima and Ex-Officio Chairman, KDRSC Nagaland, B. Henok Buchem reminded citizens to strictly obey traffic rules and respect lawful authority. Buchem emphasized that public spaces and roads are meant for the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians and should not be misused for haphazard dumping of construction materials or random parking without consideration for others. Stating that Kohima belongs to every resident of the district, the DC called upon citizens to take civic responsibility and civic sense more seriously for the betterment of the town.

MLA and Chairman, DPDB Kohima, Kevipodi Sophie, in his award presentation speech, expressed happiness that organizations such as Upper Jail Colony Panchayat, Jotsoma Youth Organization, Kezoma Village Council and Naga Bazaar Youth Organization have been actively assisting the administration and traffic police in ensuring smooth traffic flow.

He further expressed hope that more citizens and organizations would come forward in the days ahead to support law enforcement agencies so that the district does not face traffic-related problems. The awardees for the Kohima District Road Safety Award–2026 included Upper Jail Colony Panchayat, Jotsoma Youth Organization, Kezoma Village Council, Naga Bazaar Youth Organization, and personnel of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). The award is an initiative of the Kohima District Road Safety Committee to recognise individuals, groups, organisations and departments contributing towards road safety. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a citation.
