Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, Group Chairman – Medanta Institute of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Orthopaedics, completes 40,000 knee replacements

Medanta Gurugram, ranked India’s best private hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, on Friday honoured Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, Group Chairman of the Medanta Institute of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Orthopaedics, for completing 40,000 knee replacement surgeries—a landmark that highlights Medanta’s leadership in orthopaedic excellence. Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta, hailed Dr. Rajgopal’s “unwavering dedication to patient care,” while Group CEO Pankaj Sahni praised his expertise and compassion. Patients also shared moving testimonies of regaining mobility and independence.

India faces a growing crisis of joint health, with nearly 60 million people projected to suffer from knee osteoarthritis by 2025. Rising cases of obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and untreated injuries have driven demand for knee replacements, which now exceed 2.5 lakh annually. The Indian knee replacement market is projected to grow at 11% CAGR between 2025–2035.

Where Medanta is developing a new hospital, the orthopaedic market is expanding rapidly with growing awareness about advanced surgical options. Patients in Assam and the Northeast, often compelled to travel to metro cities for treatment, are expected to benefit from Medanta’s presence, particularly in complex joint care. Dr. Rajgopal reaffirmed Medanta’s commitment to advancing technology, robotic-assisted surgeries, and personalized treatment for long-term patient outcomes.
