The Department of Power, Nagaland, has announced an emergency power shutdown scheduled for June 28, 2025, that will affect several key areas of Kohima, including the Civil Secretariat zone. The shutdown will take place between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, impacting the 11KV Secretariat and 11KV Thizama feeders. According to officials, the shutdown has been necessitated by urgent relocation work on a double pole structure that has become dangerously unstable following recent landslides. Days of heavy and continuous rainfall in the region have weakened soil foundations, causing the pole to tilt and raising serious safety concerns.
The power disruption will affect the following areas: Lower Bayavü, Khikha-Rüleizou, Merema, Thizama, and the Secretariat Area. These include several residential zones, government offices, and institutional buildings that rely heavily on a stable power supply. While the department has assured that efforts will be made to complete the repair and resume supply ahead of schedule, it has also urged all consumers in the affected zones to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions to minimize inconvenience. “We request the public’s cooperation as this work is essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of the power system in the area,” a spokesperson from the department stated.
The Power Department has also encouraged residents to switch off sensitive electronic devices during the maintenance window and to make arrangements for alternative power if necessary, particularly in offices and healthcare-related facilities.
