Five get life term in 2012 Chirang m*rder case linked to communal clashes

The special CBI court in Bongaigaon on Wednesday sentenced five men to life imprisonment for their role in a brutal murder committed during the 2012 communal clashes in Assam’s Chirang district. The judgment was delivered by Special Judge Mousumi Dey. Those convicted are Joynudin Sheikh, Abdul Khaleque, Nabi Hussain, Habijur, and Osman Ali.

 According to the case details, the incident took place in Hashraobari under Bijni police station during the peak of the 2012 ethnic violence. A seven-member armed group attacked and killed Ratneswar Basumatary with sharp weapons. Out of the seven accused, one remains absconding, while another died in jail during the course of the trial.
