Former Nagaland minister Mmhonlumo Kikon quits BJP to explore ‘New Avenues of Public Engagement’

On Thursday, former Nagaland minister and BJP national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon resigned from all party positions as well as the main and active membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Regarding his resignation, the Nagaland BJP has not yet released an official statement. Kikon, a former two-time MLA from Nagaland’s Bhandari assembly constituency, thanked the BJP for the opportunities and responsibilities he had been given during his more than ten years with the party in a letter of resignation addressed to the party’s president.

“I have had the privilege of serving the BJP and advancing its operations and progress in a variety of roles and responsibilities since I joined the party more than ten years ago. Having held the positions of National Spokesperson and Prabhari (observer) of Mizoram state, my affiliation with the Party has been incredibly enlightening,” Kikon stated. According to him, it’s time for him to stand back and reassess his path. “I think that by exploring new avenues of public engagement and policy work, I will be able to continue contributing to society in different ways,” the Naga leader stated, explaining his decision.
