Gaurav Gogoi leads Congress Yatra into Dibrugarh, pledges “New Greater Assam”

The second phase of the ‘Samay Paribartanor’ yatra of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) reached Dibrugarh district on March 1, with party leaders holding padayatras and bike rallies across Naharkatia, Duliajan and Tingkhong constituencies. The yatra was led by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, who began the day by offering prayers at Raidongia Namghar in Naharkatia. The Congress team later received a warm welcome from supporters at Nigam Tiniali. Party workers and local residents gathered in large numbers as the rally moved through different areas of the district.

Addressing gatherings during the yatra, Gogoi said the Congress is committed to building a “New Greater Assam” by bringing together people from all communities. He said the party’s aim is to work for every section of society, without dividing people on the basis of caste, religion or language. Gogoi described the yatra as a direct outreach programme to the people. He said the Congress wants to improve education and healthcare facilities in every village, including tea garden areas. He also spoke about women’s empowerment, saying small-scale enterprises would be promoted so that women can become financially independent. He assured that under a Congress government, welfare benefits for eligible women would be directly transferred to their bank accounts without requiring them to attend political meetings.

During the visit, Gogoi also interacted with different community groups. He lit candles at a Ghinai Baptist church in Dibrugarh, offered prayers at a Tai Phake shrine in Naharkatia, and visited a Namghar in Tipling. In Duliajan, he met workers of Oil India Limited, local traders at Tipling Tiniali and farmers at Kacharipathar. The yatra was joined by several senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, MP Pradyut Bordoloi, former MP Paban Singh Ghatowar, and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, along with members of the Dibrugarh District Congress Committee.
