Godrej Industries leads sustainability drive with #BeatPlasticPollution campaign

Godrej Industries Group (GIG), in partnership with BMC and the Bhamla Foundation, has launched the #BeatPlasticPollution campaign, backed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to address India’s growing plastic waste crisis. With 9.46 million tonnes of plastic waste generated in 2023—43% of it single-use—the campaign urges consumers to embrace sustainable choices and reduce their plastic footprint.

Nadir Godrej, Chairman and MD of GIG, stated, “Over the past decade, we’ve made significant strides—64% of our energy now comes from renewable sources, and we recycle 100% of our plastic packaging. This campaign is a natural extension of our mission to create a sustainable legacy.” A key feature of the initiative is the Godrej Magic Ready-to-Mix Handwash Station in Mumbai, showcasing how refill usage can cut plastic waste. Neeraj Senguttuvan, GCPL’s Marketing Head, emphasized that this innovation uses 50% less plastic, 75% less fuel, and 75% less paper compared to regular handwash.

In Guwahati, where urban waste is becoming a serious challenge, industry watchers believe such business-led sustainability models can offer scalable solutions for northeastern cities aiming to curb single-use plastic reliance. The campaign concludes with a Cyclothon to amplify eco-conscious living.
