Governor Commends ‘Border Brew Café’ as Model for Community Empowerment

Governor K.T. Parnaik has concluded a high-profile visit to the remote forward areas of Tawang, where he interacted with the Indian Armed Forces and ITBP personnel stationed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). During his visit to the historic Khenzemane outpost, the governor emphasized the importance of mental alertness and physical fitness in the face of the challenging conditions defining India’s frontier regions. On Thursday, Governor Parnaik, accompanied by 190 Mountain Brigade Commander Brig Bhupal Singh, reached the Khenzemane border outpost to review the well-being of the troops. Addressing the personnel, the governor urged them to maintain high morale and stay disciplined, noting that strength of mind and body is essential for national security. He took a personal interest in their living conditions, inquiring about their health and their ability to remain connected with their families despite the extreme remoteness of their postings. He reminded the forces that their presence is the primary shield for the nation’s sovereignty. A significant portion of the governor’s address focused on the vital bond between the military and local border communities. Drawing on the historic lessons of the 1962 Sino-Indian War, he recalled how local populations stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces, providing invaluable guidance in difficult terrain. He advised the troops to maintain cordial relations with the residents of Tawang, stating that the trust and support of those living in border areas are indispensable assets for any strategic operation. This civil-military harmony, he noted, remains a cornerstone of the region’s stability. Beyond security briefings, the governor also focused on local empowerment by visiting the ‘Border Brew Café’ at Zemithang. This initiative, run by the ‘Bap Teng Kang’ Women Self Help Group and supported by the 5 Mountain Division under Operation Sadhbhavana, was lauded as a prime example of community participation. Col. Rohan Khisti, CO of the 2 Maratha Light Infantry, briefed the Governor on how the café provides sustainable livelihoods and fosters self-reliance. The governor commended the Indian Army for its role in inclusive growth, highlighting that such entrepreneurial models help transform border villages into vibrant economic centers while preserving their cultural authenticity. The governor’s visit underscores a dual approach to border management: maintaining a high state of military readiness while simultaneously driving grassroots development. By recognizing the synergy between the armed forces and local entrepreneurs, the governor’s tour reinforced the message of a resilient and united frontier. As Tawang continues to be a focal point of national security, such high-level engagements serve to strengthen both the morale of the defenders and the resilience of the local community.
