A walkathon organised by Eris Lifesciences during IOACON 2025 has drawn attention to a worrying rise in orthopaedic disorders linked to sedentary lifestyles among younger age groups. The two-hour walk began early Thursday at Sarusajai Sports Complex and was led by Milind Soman.
Doctors at the event pointed out that screen time, long study hours and lack of exercise are triggering knee and back issues among students and young office workers in Guwahati’s rapidly growing education and IT hubs around Khanapara, Six Mile and Dispur.
Speakers emphasised timely consultation and early detection. “Orthopaedic problems often begin silently. A small discomfort today can turn severe later,” IOACON organisers said.
The walkathon reinforces a shift toward preventive care in Guwahati’s health-conscious youth market. Gyms, apartment complexes and running groups in the city have reported increased early-morning activity, especially during winter. The organisers urged young people to include walking in their routines and listen to early signs of discomfort. The event ended with a message encouraging regular exercise and healthy habits for long-term mobility and wellbeing.
