Hagrama Mohilary says he will Lead BTC for next 15 years, targets present leadership at Baksa rally

Senior Bodoland leader and former Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Hagrama Mohilary said that he would continue to lead the BTC for the next 15 years. He made the statement while addressing a public gathering organised by the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) during its “Dispur Chalo” programme at Nimuwa in Baksa district of Assam.Speaking before party supporters and local residents, Mohilary said the BPF remains determined to address the problems faced by people living in the BTC region. He said the party would continue to raise public concerns and work for the welfare of the communities in the four districts that fall under the Bodoland Territorial Region.

During his speech, Mohilary also touched upon several issues affecting the council area. He referred to matters such as eviction drives and the Special Recruitment (SR) process, and said that the BPF would continue to stand with the people on these matters. According to him, the party’s main focus is to protect the interests of the residents of the region and ensure that their concerns are heard. Mohilary also used the platform to speak about national leadership and upcoming developments in the region. While interacting with reporters on the sidelines of the programme, he said he hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would announce some important and beneficial initiatives for the BTC region during his proposed visit to Kokrajhar on March 13. He said people in the region expect development announcements and policies that could benefit local communities.

Responding to questions from reporters about the present BTC leadership, Mohilary made remarks about Pramod Boro, the current Chief Executive Member of the council. Mohilary said that the people would ultimately decide and judge the leadership based on their work and performance. He also added that he does not consider Boro a leader. Mohilary further clarified that his wife would not be contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections. His statement came amid speculation in some political circles regarding possible candidates for the next election.
