At KASA Stadium in Diphu, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave checks to recipients of important welfare and empowerment programs. In an effort to assist traditional Karbi priests, known locally as “Cruisers of Karbi Aron Barim,” the Chief Minister gave checks to 7,298 recipients who were in attendance. He promised that before the next Assembly elections, the remaining recipients would get their money. CM Sarma also declared that the yearly support for these traditional priests would be raised to Rs 12,000 starting the following year.
CM Sarma also gave the first seed capital checks of Rs 75,000 apiece to a few chosen recipients under the Chief Minister Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CM-AA) 2.0 empowerment program. After completing a required three-day training program in their respective districts, the remaining Rs 25,000 would be instantly deposited into each beneficiary’s bank account. Beginning next year, the Assam government intends to expand this benefit to 10 lakh recipients, with an approximate target of 8,000 recipients per Assembly constituency.
A total of 1,944 beneficiaries—457 from West Karbi Anglong, 1,000 from Karbi Anglong, and 487 from Dima Hasao—participated in the distribution programme, reflecting the scheme’s focus on the hill districts. The event was attended by KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, MP Amarsing Tisso, Karbi Recho Longsing Ronghang, Assam Minister Nandita Gorlosa, former MP Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, Padma Shri awardees Prof. Rongbong Terang, Dhaneshwar Engti and Pokhila Lekhthepi, along with other dignitaries and members of the public. The initiative highlights the Assam government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting youth self-reliance through targeted financial and skill development support.
