India’s First AI-Enabled State University Pilot Launched at CCSU Meerut

The Government of India has unveiled a landmark public–private collaboration to integrate artificial intelligence across education and skilling, announcing Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, as the country’s first AI-enabled state university pilot.

The announcement was made by Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, at Google’s AI for Learning Forum in New Delhi. The initiative brings together the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Google Cloud and Chaudhary Charan Singh University, aligning with the Prime Minister’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Under the pilot, CCSU will operate as a national living laboratory for AI-first education, deploying personalised AI tutors, AI-based skill-gap analysis and intelligent document processing to improve academic delivery and administrative efficiency. Learnings will be extended to affiliated colleges and scaled across India’s 45,000+ colleges and over 1,200 universities. The initiative also dovetails with the government’s ₹60,000-crore Model ITI Scheme to modernise vocational training.

Addressing the forum, Chaudhary said AI can bridge long-standing gaps between degrees and employability by connecting classroom learning with industry needs and democratising access to skills beyond metros. He also called for stronger teacher enablement, urging expansion of AI support to Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Google leaders, including Preeti Lobana and Chris Phillips, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible, population-scale AI adoption, positioning India as a testbed for inclusive education solutions for the Global South.
