Vice President hails Centre’s pact with Nagaland govt, ENPO

The Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, today said the tripartite agreement between the Centre, the Nagaland government and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) was a major breakthrough in addressing long-standing issues of eastern Nagaland. Speaking at the 8th Convocation of Nagaland University at Lumami, Nagaland, he said that the tripartite agreement signed at the initiative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah would have a positive impact on eastern Nagaland. “Peace is must for development. Differences will be there, but we must always try to resolve them amicably with mutual respect,” he said.

Congratulating the graduating students, he said that today’s world is changing at a fast pace and they need to adapt to these changes quickly and keep learning if they have to become successful in life. The Vice President commended Nagaland University for its significant contributions to higher education. He also appreciated the transformative infrastructural progress and peace initiatives in the Northeast region over the past decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Governor of Nagaland and Chief Rector of Nagaland University Ajay Kumar Bhalla; Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang; Chancellor of Nagaland University, Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap; Vice Chancellor, Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik; and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the Vice President was accorded a warm welcome by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the Nagaland Governor and others at the Dimapur Airport as he arrived on a maiden visit to Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura from March 6-8. During the visit, the Vice President will be the Chief Guest at the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University in Aizawl on March 7. On his visit to Tripura, the Vice President will grace the 14th Convocation of Tripura University in Agartala on March 8. Later in the day, he will visit the Self-Help Group (SHG) stalls at the International Trade & Fair Centre, Hapania, where he will interact with women SHG members and Lakhpati Didis.
