Konyak Union backs ENPO, seeks strict MoA compliance

The Konyak Union (KU) has extended its support to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), urging the Nagaland government to strictly follow the terms of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) while taking forward the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, 2026. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, KU president K Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said the MoA signed on February 5, 2026 is a major step towards addressing the long-pending demands and development concerns of the people of eastern Nagaland. The union stated that any legislative process related to the FNTA must fully reflect both the letter and the spirit of the agreement. It stressed that there should be no dilution of the provisions agreed upon in the MoA.

According to KU, the agreement holds significant importance for the people of the region, who have been seeking a more focused approach to development and governance. The union said that maintaining the integrity of the MoA is necessary to ensure that these expectations are met in a fair and transparent manner. The organisation also warned that any deviation from the agreed terms could affect the trust of the people and other stakeholders involved in the process. It said such a situation could weaken confidence in the steps being taken to address the region’s issues. KU has called on the state government to take all necessary measures to protect the core provisions of the agreement while finalising the FNTA Bill. It said the legislation should clearly include all commitments made in the MoA.

“This will go a long way in strengthening mutual trust, fostering unity, and paving the way for lasting peace, development, and progress in the region,” the union stated. The union also expressed hope that the Chief Minister would take a balanced and fair approach while dealing with the matter, keeping in mind the genuine aspirations of the people of eastern Nagaland.
