Landslides have forced the suspension of train operations on the Lumding–Badarpur hill route

Mass landslides between Dihakho and Mupa stations at km 51/1–2 have resulted in the permanent suspension of train services on the Lumding–Badarpur hill route. Because of the dire circumstances, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials have decided to suspend operations on the route starting on Wednesday. When mud and boulders from a landslide obstructed the tracks between Dihakho and Mupa on July 3, services were temporarily suspended. This was the first disruption. Regular train travel is impossible in the Dima Hasao district due to recurrent landslides caused by the ongoing heavy rainfall, even though NFR quickly resumed operations within a day.

Due to the landslide zone’s current perilous instability, officials have been forced to temporarily halt rail service. As a result, the three districts of the Barak Valley, Dima Hasao, and the neighboring states of Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram are no longer connected by train to the rest of India. There is currently no clarity on when regular rail services will resume along this vital route, but NFR authorities stated that repair work is being done 24/7 on a war footing. After services were restored on June 30, the July 3 landslide had another impact. Train traffic on the Lumding–Badarpur hill line has been totally suspended till further notice due to the deteriorating circumstances.
