Max Healthcare highlight stop Vrat-friendly ingredients for healthy Navratri

As Navratri approaches, families across India are preparing for fasting, a practice rooted in devotion and discipline. Experts emphasize that fasting can also support wellness when paired with nutrient-rich ingredients. Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head – Dietetics at Max Healthcare, recommends focusing on whole foods like California Almonds, sabudana, kuttu (buckwheat), and samak rice, while avoiding refined sugars and fried foods, to maintain energy and overall health during the nine-day festival.

Almonds are suggested as an ideal morning snack, providing protein, healthy fats, vitamin E, and magnesium. Sabudana, commonly used in khichdi and vada, is easily digestible and supplies quick energy. Kuttu flour, gluten-free and high in fiber, aids digestion and keeps energy levels steady, while samak rice offers a light, vitamin-rich alternative to regular rice for pulaos and kheer.

Local markets report brisk sales of almonds, sabudana, and kuttu flour, reflecting the city’s blend of traditional observance and growing health consciousness among residents. Retailers encourage early purchases to avoid last-minute rushes, particularly for high-quality almonds and barnyard millet. This Navratri, mindful ingredient choices are helping devotees balance spiritual practice with nutrition, turning fasting into an opportunity for healthier eating habits.
