Multiple Naga Accords Could Undermine Unified Stand, Warns Niki Sumi

Amid ongoing challenges within the Naga peace process, Niki Sumi, president of NSCN-K (Niki), emphasized the detrimental effects of existing parallel agreements—the Framework Agreement (FA) and the Agreed Position (AP)—on the Naga people’s unity and collective voice. Speaking at the CFSB office in Padampukhuri, he indicated that the Naga political situation has reached a pivotal moment, with internal fragmentation and ambiguity threatening the future of the Nagas.

Sumi highlighted the issue of the Agreed Position, noting the confusion stemming from the formation of two independent Working Committees under the NNPGs despite the existence of a singular AP. He urged all factions to resolve their internal conflicts and establish a unified front. On the subject of the Framework Agreement, he expressed concerns regarding the lack of transparency, questioning why its details had remained undisclosed after extensive negotiations. He called attention to the need for clarity on critical matters such as sovereignty, integration, flag, and constitution.

Reiterating the necessity of unity, Sumi called for cooperation among organizations like the UNC, ENPO, and the Naga Tribal Hoho to achieve a lasting resolution. He firmly articulated that without the integration of the FA and AP into a cohesive vision document, he would refrain from participating in any reconciliation initiatives led by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation. In closing, he reaffirmed his dedication to protecting Naga identity and pledged to support any collective decisions reached through genuine unity amongst the Naga people.
